I am NOT an animator, so don't ask me to give you some animated example or something. Equally, don't just ignore this crit. It's an observation that if listened to can only improve your work.
The starting stance is wrong. The character is facing too much towards the camera/viewer, and not enough to the "target", making the following attacks look unnatural and clumsy.
It's as if the character is fighting someone but not facing them and is trying to punch over their shoulder, resulting in what I can only imagine is a backhander opening move.
Just as an exercise, stand in that position, and punch/kick to the direction that you're trying to go. If this is for a side scrolling game then the stance needs to reflect that.
Have a look at some kung fu films or clips on youtube to get some references for stances, if you don't do a martial arts yourself, or get a friend to stand in that position and punch/kick in a way that feels natural. I can quite safely guarantee that you won't get the result you have here. Overall you just need to make the character face more to the left and the rest will follow...
It is a variation on the Jeet kune do blade stance, him facing the wrong way was intentional, since the unorthodox stance reflects his character for the game (angry computer geek). It shows his true lack of fighting knowledge. some features were heavily exagerated too. since im going for cartoony style for the entire game, I tend to ignore the common sense of reality. Thanks for the critique though, hopefully my sense was made?
cool man so nice! I have a question, do you do shape tweens? its so well done. I just started learning to use symbols so just a question if you dont mind answering it.
